Deepak Massand
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Deepak Massand

Deepak founded Litéra® in 2001. Pursuing his vision of solving the business collaboration dilemma, he has led the company to its current status as the global leader in content lifecycle and risk management with solutions for secure document creation, collaboration, comparison, control and cleaning.

Deepak’s vision focuses on the value Litéra provides to our clients. His mantra is to enhance document-related business processes for an immediate return on investment, and match this value with world-class customer support.

Prior to starting Litéra, Deepak had 25 years of executive level management experience. He served as the President and CEO of Merz Pharmaceuticals for five years. Prior to that, Deepak was at Johnson and Johnson where he held senior management positions, including Executive Director.

He earned Advanced Management credentials from the Kellogg School of Management, as well as the Darden School of Management (UVA).

Karen Massand
Board of Directors

Karren Massand

Ms. Massand is a co-founder and board member of Litéra, with more than 23 years in the software and healthcare industries. Previously Ms. Massand was a founding executive of pharmaceutical software company Skila, where she held the top commercial and operational executive positions prior to the successful sale of the company. Her additional industry experience includes commercial operations executive for Salem Health Solutions, a Novant Health healthcare data analytics company, Director at CRM software company Dendrite, and various sales and management roles at Johnson & Johnson's Ortho McNeil Pharmaceuticals.

Prior to her career in healthcare, Karen was a television news reporter and anchor for CBS and NBC news. She holds BA in Communications from the University of Washington, with post-graduate studies at Wharton and Harvard. Karen is a member of the Board of Directors at Litera and Dr. Score, and advisory board member to Axxiem Solutions and Taylor Presentations.

Paul Domnick

Paul Domnick

Paul Domnick joined Litéra as President in May of 2014. He brings special knowledge about the utility of Litéra’s software products in managing risks in financial services.

Paul was CIO of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer from the beginning of 2009 until November 2013. There he was responsible for a global team of more than 300, covering all areas in IT & IS such as change management, information security, infrastructure operations and helpdesk support, technical architecture, vendor management, application support, programme and project delivery. .

He was previously group chief technology officer and deputy head of IT for Zurich Financial Services (ZFS) responsible for technology strategy, standards, enterprise and applications architecture across the entire business. Before taking on this role in early 2007, Paul was head of global IT sourcing for ZFS.

Susan Lewenz
Chief Information Officer

Susan Lewenz

Susan manages Litera's global research and development, customer satisfaction and IT operations at Litéra, including operations in the United States, Ukraine, Singapore, Vietnam, and India. Before joining Litéra, Susan established and ran Axxiem Corp, a successful digital marketing agency focused primarily on the Biopharma space. In 2012, Susan conceived of and created "AxxiTRIALS®", a leading Clinical Trials Community Portal Solution as the result of consistent feedback from the industry. Litéra acquired AxxiTRIALS in 2013.

Susan's career has crossed much of the globe and includes running successful operations in Russia, Ukraine and India. She is credited for bringing companies like Parke Davis (now part of Pfizer), Space Labs Medical and Steris, into the Russian market. Susan also managed product development and user experience for Skila, a knowledge management platform used by nine of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies. Susan has also collaborated with Time Warner and brought both Fortune and Popular Science Magazines to the Russian market.

Fluent in Russian, Susan holds a BS from Michigan State University and an MPP from the University of Michigan, which leaves her squarely in the middle of the cross-state rivalry.

Norm Thomas
Chief Commercial Officer

Norm Thomas

Norm is the Chief Commercial Officer for Litéra®, responsible for the continued growth of the company through direct legal and corporate sales.

As a recognized industry leader in technology for professional services firms, Thomas spent 8 years with Microsoft as Director of Industry Market Development for the Legal and Professional Services solutions business, focusing on customer engagement and channel-building in the services sector globally. Before joining Microsoft, Thomas was a Client Partner for Cambridge Technology Partners in enterprise-scale project management and client development, and before that was President of Softec Solutions, Inc., a systems integrator for small- and medium-sized manufacturing companies.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from USC and an MBA in Finance from the University of Washington and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Washington.

Raina Massand
Vice President of Business Development

Raina Massand

Raina Massand is a co-founder of Litéra® and currently serves on the board of the company. As Vice President of Business Development, Raina’s responsibilities include sales and strategy for all of our product lines in the corporate market segment. Raina comes to Litéra as a proven sales leader and people manager with strong communication and sales strategy skills.

Raina’s breadth of experience includes a variety of roles in sales management, leadership, training and management development with companies including Pfizer and Novartis. At her previous organization, Raina was the recipient of several national and global sales and leadership awards. Most recently, she was chosen as one of twenty five emerging leaders chosen to complete a corporate sponsored leadership development program. She further distinguished herself by achieving a Master’s certificate in Leadership Capability through this opportunity.

Raina has a B.A. in Psychology from New York University (N.Y.U.) and a M.A. in Communication from the University of North Carolina.

Joy Heath Rush
Vice President of Client Development

Joy Heath Rush

With more than 32 years in legal technology, Joy brings to Litera a wealth of knowledge, a depth of passion, and a commitment to the success of the legal technology community.

Perhaps best known as a board member and past president of International Legal Technology Association (ILTA), Rush has also been a contributor to legal IT publications and frequent speaker at industry events. Hailing from Sidley Austin LLP, a global firm with more than 1800 lawyers practicing in 19 cities around the world, Rush is well-respected for her expertise on a wide range of topics. Over her 28 years with Sidley, she managed teams responsible for desktop applications, multimedia services, asset management, user training and support at the highly esteemed firm.

Sherry Kappel
Chief Consiliaria

Sherry Kappel

Sherry serves as Chief Consiliaria at Litéra, a role that has her leading and overseeing all global consulting efforts at the company. She is responsible for strategic advisory services, industry outreach, and client advocacy. Sherry has nearly 30 years of legal and document-centric technology experience, having led product management, research and development, client support, and global strategic consulting efforts.

Widely recognized for her deep domain knowledge in the legal and life sciences industries, technical documentation, and document management, Kappel has written and spoken widely on technologies that address the needs, goals and strategies of services-oriented businesses. She is also an expert in authoring applications, document automation, template and precedent management, file format transformations, technology change management, and Microsoft Office systems and products.

Prior to joining Litéra, Sherry spent 28 years with Microsystems, where she most recently held the position of Chief Innovation Officer. She holds an M.S. in Communications from Northwestern University and a B.A. in Mass Communications from Truman State University.

Stu Gauffreau
General Counsel and Director of Business Affairs

Stu Gauffreau

Stu is responsible for all legal matters at Litéra® and also has a management role with the company’s back-office business functions. A lawyer since 1996, Stu was a partner at two prominent North Carolina law firms before joining Litéra and has a wide range of experience in commercial litigation, contract drafting and negotiation, dispute resolution, and advising businesses and business owners.

Prior to attending law school, Stu was a military intelligence officer on active duty in the United States Army, which included combat service in Iraq and Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm. Stu currently serves in the Army Reserve as a Colonel in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps.

Stu holds a B.A. in Political Science from Duke University and a law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law.

Rich Powers
Dir. of Western Region Sales and Channel Management

Rich Powers

Rich is responsible for serving and expanding Litéra’s legal and corporate customer base in the western U.S. through direct and indirect sales strategies. In his role, Rich works with reseller partners for all markets and manages all activities with them including contracting, training and ongoing communications.

Rich brings a wealth of focused expertise to Litéra®, having more than 20 years of experience in all phases of legal and corporate technology sales. Most recently, Rich served as Account Director at DocAuto, where he was highly respected for his outstanding service to clients. Prior to DocAuto, Rich held leadership positions at Perfect Access Speer, a provider of services to build IT learning strategies serving law firms and financial institutions, iEnvision Technology, TechLaw and Equitrac.

Rich Glikin
Director of Client Development Northeast Region

Rich Glikin

Rich is responsible for serving and expanding Litéra®’s legal and corporate customer base in the northeastern United States.

Rich brings over 25 years of enterprise software sales and account management experience to Litéra. Most recently, Rich served as a Senior Account Executive at Open Text as a part of their Legal Solutions Group. Prior to Open Text, Rich held leadership positions at Interwoven, Megastorm and Vignette. Rich holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Liza Madden
Central Region Director of Client Development

Liza Madden

Liza joins Litéra as the Central Region Director of Client Development, with over twenty-five years of experience serving the technology needs of law firms and corporate legal departments. Liza comes from HP Software by way of the Autonomy acquisition, where she was the Director of Marketing for the HP Enterprise Content Management (iManage) division. Prior to HP, Liza spent over fourteen years as a Director of Consulting Services at Baker Robbins & Company, where she was responsible for business development and project delivery. Her subject matter expertise has centered on content management and secure collaboration solutions in Am. Law 200 law firms and Fortune 500 Corporations. In addition to her marketing and consulting career, Liza has served the industry as an Account Executive for Novell Inc. via the SoftSolutions acquisition.

Donovan Alexander
Director of Sales Engineering

Donovan Alexander

Donovan has been an integral part of Litéra® for the past 6 years. As Director of Sales Engineering, Alexander’s responsibilities encompass all discussions centering around the technical engineering of Litéra products and team members' abilities to communicate Litéra's value proposition to customers, prospects, and strategic partners.

Alexander has more than 10 years of technology consumer and enterprise experience, holding key positions at several start-ups and corporations in markets such as: insurance, transportation, talent acquisition, and legal technology. During his tenure with Litéra, Donovan has held responsibilities spanning operations, product support, and business development

Additionally, Donovan has extensive experience in team management, sales-training, product management, and early-stage revenue generation. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from WVU.

Chuck Henrich
Director of Product Management

Chuck Henrich

Chuck serves as director of product management for Litéra®. With 30 years of experience developing and supporting productivity-enhancing software products and solutions, Chuck worked previously at Matheson Ormsby Prentice, Ireland’s leading multinational law firm. At Litéra, Chuck works closely with research and development teams on product design and road map across the company’s product range. His role also involves building close working relationships with customers, serving as a user advocate to champion customers’ technical and business needs.

Chuck holds a BA from Cornell University and an MFA from New York University.

Tapio Schnaars
Director of Operations

Dave Rosa

Tapio Schnaars brings 10+ years of web development and design experience to the AxxiTRIALS management team. With expertise in graphic communications, project management and web technologies, he directs the design and development of the platform and works closely with clients to address current and future project needs. He also works with Litéra’s software teams in the areas of product development and user interface design. Tapio holds a BA in Fine Art from the University of California Santa Cruz and a Master of Arts degree in Graphic Communications Management and Technology from New York University.
